The state of Connecticut has established comprehensive child support guidelines which are to be followed when determining an arrangement for the care and well-being of children affected by divorce. The guidelines propose that the children should receive the same level of financial support and proportion of parental income that they would have had if the parents stayed together. All other factors are based upon this presumption. Alimony, on the other hand, is not awarded in every divorce case.
